Colombia has the most unique places to stay. It has charming colonial hotels in equally charming towns, wooden huts in the jungle and luxury boutique hotels – and we tried many different options during our Colombia trip. We listed our 6 favorite places to stay in Colombia.
Best places to stay in Colombia: our 6 favorite hostels and hotels
#1 Arche Noah Boutique Hostel
Bogotá | Current prices and availiability | This beautiful boutique hostel in the historical area of Bogotá is the perfect starting point to explore the city. The Gold Museum and the meeting place for the free Graffiti Tour are just around the corner! Other major sights in the historic center are within walking distance as well. The beautiful hotel is housed in a white-painted, colonial building. It has both private rooms and dormitories. There is a terrace, kitchen and sauna. Breakfast is served in the beautiful courtyard.
#2 Tinto Hostel
Barichara | Current prices and availability | The colonial village of Barichara is a beautiful place to visit. White houses, a relaxed atmosphere and monumental buildings.. Tinto Hostel is located in one of the colonial old buildings of the city, near the city square. There are several dormitories and private rooms. We slept in one of the private rooms that turned out to be a magical paradise! We had our own kitchen, a huge room with beautiful beamed ceilings and an outdoor shower to fall in love with. The garden with terrace and swimming pool makes it complete!
#3 The Plantation House
Salento | Current prices and availability | Salento has many beautiful places to stay, but The Plantation House stole our hearts during our stay. The rooms are nice and spacious. There is a lot of green. The dogs are so cute that you want to take them home. The Plantation House is connected to one of the coffee plantations in this coffee region, so every day an excursion to this coffee plantation is organized. The longer you stay, the more discount you get. During our visit to the coffee finca – on which the hostel dogs joined us too – we learned about growing coffee plants and processing coffee beans. We also practised our roasting and grinding skills on the coffee beans, after which we did a tasting to experience the differences between the roasting and grinding variations. Highly recommended!
#4 La Natura
Palomino | Current prices and availability | Most travelers in Palomino are heading straigth to one of the resorts at the beach, but you will love a stay at La Natura maybe even more! The hostel – with dormitories, private rooms and hammocks with mosquito nets outside – is wonderful. The wooden building with a roof of leaves is almost like a huge, tropical tree house! The garden has lovely chill places, allowing guests to relax on sunbeds or play a game at one of the tree tables. La Natura is halfway between the oean and the village, so the best restaurants at the main street and the beach are both close.
#5 Renacer Guesthouse
Villa de Leyva | Current prices and availability | Renacer is probably the most popular place to stay in the colonial village of Villa de Leyva, so make sure you have booked ahead. There are dorms, but also spacious double rooms. The rooms are located in a horseshoe shape around a courtyard with hammocks. The perfect place to watch the sunset! The breakfast is delicious, the staff super friendly and the garden with swimming pond wonderful. The guesthouse is not in the city centre, but about 1,5 kilometers from the huge Plaza Mayor. That is not to far to walk at all, but it’s much easier to take your taxi when arriving with your luggage. So Renacer will gladly cover the expenses for your first taxi ride. We like!
#6 Casa Loma
Minca | Current prices and availability | Our visit to Minca was one of the highlights of our Colombia trip and that was largely due to the beautiful place we stayed at. Casa Loma is located on a mountain next to the small town of Minca. The ecohostel has the most amazing cabins for two. But are you travelling alone and are you looking for a dormitory? Then book a hammock in one of the wooden lodges. With the amazing mountain view at Casa Loma, you can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets with a cocktail in your hand (see the picture above this blog). Make sure you join the other guests for dinner as wel. Casa Loma serves lovely vegetarian meals! The next day, you can start your morning with a yoga class with a view. Yes, this was the most relaxed place we visited in Colombia! Oh, and don’t forget to book well in advance, as Casa Loma is a very popular place.
