Best simcard in Morocco – how to get unlimited data

Wish to lose yourself worry-free in the winding Moroccan medinas and seeking the best internet options in Morocco? We’ve just navigated this maze and are eager to pass on what we’ve learned.

Most SIM cards in Morocco offer very limited data and are, even by European standards, quite expensive. Given our internet consumption, we quickly burn through it. Consequently, we searched for the best option for a SIM card with unlimited internet in Morocco.

So, if you aspire to be a #digitalnomad or are as hooked on the internet as we are, these are the two top choices.

Option 1: Holafly eSIM

We discovered an offer for unlimited internet for 20 days at €57 with a Holafly eSIM. This connects you to the network of Maroc Telecom, a reliable provider.

The advantages? It’s easy to set up, and you’re guaranteed unlimited internet as soon as you land in the country. Sebastiaan even had internet on his phone while we were still aboard the ferry from Spain, close enough to catch the Moroccan network.

The disadvantages? It doesn’t function as a hotspot, so sharing the connection with other devices is a no-go. However, we did find a workaround using the Netbridge app. This solution wasn’t perfect, though, as the internet on the other devices was too slow for our liking and not all apps were supported.

We also find the price rather steep for just 20 days, especially when compared to what you’d typically pay in most European countries.

Option 2: SIM card hack at Inwi

Inwi offers various prepaid bundles with a limited amount of data but, unfortunately, no unlimited internet package. Or is there? While not part of Inwi’s official offerings, you can request a card with unlimited internet for a month in an Inwi store. If you’re lucky, you can snag one for just 200 up to 350 dirhams (under 20-35 euros). Remember to bring your passport to the store for registration, and with a bit of luck, you’ll walk out with unlimited internet.

The advantages? They are clear: unlimited browsing, including via a hotspot on all your devices. Inwi is also a reliable provider, so you’re in good hands. The price of 200 – 350 dirhams is also very competitive, especially compared to the cost of individual data bundles (often around 1 euro for 1 GB).

The disadvantages? You might be turned down. It’s not officially part of Inwi’s offerings, so there’s a chance you’ll hear a ‘no’ at the store. Plus, you need to visit an Inwi store – or possibly three, as was our case (sold out, sold out). This means you won’t have internet immediately upon arrival. There’s also a chance you might not get a truly unlimited card, but instead one capped at 3 GB per day. We encountered this situation once, but on our next attempt, we were fortunate to secure a truly unlimited card.

Tip: Download the map of Morocco on Google Maps in advance, so you can consult it offline, and head straight to an Inwi store.

Conclusion: Opt for the Moroccan Inwi SIM card

We’ve tried both, but we think the Inwi deal is the superior choice. It took visits to three stores, but unlimited internet on all our devices for just 20 euros is truly a bargain. We didn’t know this when we bought the eSIM, but now you do.
