Looking for a unique destination for your next city break? Put Kortrijk on your list. After six months of travelling full time with our children, we felt it was time to take a short trip for just the two of us. We weren’t looking for a long flight, a packed itinerary, or a destination where we would spend our days rushing from one attraction to the next. What we wanted was simple: a chance to slow down, spend quality time together, and enjoy a few carefree days away.
We were also keen to avoid the usual city break destinations. Instead of visiting another well known European city, we wanted to discover somewhere new. Somewhere a little different. A place that felt authentic, interesting, and easy to reach, yet was still largely under the radar. That search eventually led us to Kortrijk, and we couldn’t have chosen better.
This charming city has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere while still offering everything you need for a memorable getaway. Its compact size makes it easy to explore, yet there is plenty to see and do. Historic landmarks sit alongside impressive modern architecture, creative cultural spaces, stylish shops, and excellent restaurants. Best of all, you can enjoy it all without the crowds and tourist rush that often come with more famous city destinations.
What we loved most about Kortrijk is that it isn’t a place that revolves around ticking attractions off a list. Instead, it invites you to wander. Stroll through its atmospheric streets, cross picturesque squares, and discover hidden corners that aren’t marked in every guidebook. One moment you’re admiring a beautiful historic building, and the next you’re settling down on a sunny terrace or stumbling across a fantastic restaurant you hadn’t planned to visit.
There’s a certain ease to the city that makes it incredibly enjoyable to explore. You can take your time, follow your curiosity, and let the day unfold naturally. Whether you’re browsing local boutiques, enjoying a long lunch, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, Kortrijk encourages a slower and more relaxed way of travelling.
For us, that was exactly what made this trip so special. The city offers the perfect balance of culture, good food, and laid back charm, creating an experience that feels both refreshing and genuine. It gave us the opportunity to reconnect, unwind, and enjoy the simple pleasure of discovering somewhere new together. If you’re looking for a city break that combines character, creativity, and a relaxed pace, Kortrijk might just surprise you.

Where Is Kortrijk in Belgium?
Kortrijk is located in western Belgium, just a short distance from the French border. Unlike some of Belgium’s better known tourist destinations, it sits in a region that many international visitors have yet to discover. Nestled along the banks of the River Lys, known locally as the Leie, the city enjoys a unique position between Belgium and northern France. This location has shaped its history, culture, and atmosphere, creating a destination that feels distinctly Belgian while also carrying subtle French influences.
One of the reasons Kortrijk makes such a great choice for a city break is how easy it is to reach. Although it feels refreshingly different from the usual tourist hotspots, getting there is surprisingly simple. For travellers coming from the Netherlands, the journey is quick and convenient. From cities such as Breda or Eindhoven, you can be in Kortrijk in less than two hours. Even from Utrecht, the drive usually takes only two and a half to three hours.
That easy accessibility is part of what makes Kortrijk such an attractive destination for a weekend away. Instead of spending hours at airports or losing a full day to travel, you can leave home in the morning and be sitting on a terrace in Belgium by lunchtime. It offers the perfect opportunity to escape your daily routine without needing to plan a complicated trip or take extra days off work.
Kortrijk’s location is also ideal for exploring more of the surrounding region. Some of Belgium’s most beautiful cities are within easy reach. Ghent is less than an hour away and makes an excellent day trip with its historic centre, canals, and lively atmosphere. Bruges is equally close, offering its famous medieval streets, picturesque squares, and charming waterways.
If you feel like experiencing a different country during your stay, France is right on your doorstep. Cross the border and within around thirty minutes you can find yourself in Lille, one of northern France’s most vibrant cities. With its elegant architecture, bustling squares, excellent restaurants, and distinctly French atmosphere, it feels completely different from Kortrijk despite being so close.

Where to Stay in Kortrijk
During our time in Kortrijk, we stayed at B&B Ar’home, and it was one of those places that immediately makes you feel welcome. Located just outside the city centre, it offers the best of both worlds. During the day, all of Kortrijk’s attractions, restaurants, and cafés are within easy reach, while in the evening you can return to a peaceful and quiet setting away from the bustle of the city.
What makes B&B Ar’home stand out is its warm and personal atmosphere. With just four guest rooms, it feels much more intimate than a typical hotel. Rather than checking into a large property, you feel as though you are being welcomed into someone’s home. The owner, Raphaella, lives on the ground floor, and her presence gives the entire place a friendly and authentic feel.
That personal touch continues throughout your stay. Every morning, Raphaella prepares and serves breakfast herself, creating a relaxed start to the day. Instead of a busy breakfast buffet or a formal dining room, you can enjoy a more homely experience where hospitality genuinely comes first. Raphaella is incredibly kind and attentive, always happy to share local tips or have a chat, and she makes every guest feel genuinely cared for.
If you prefer to stay right in the centre of Kortrijk, there are several excellent options to choose from. Hotel Damier and Hotel Messeyne are both wonderful choices, offering elegant rooms, plenty of character, and prime locations within walking distance of the city’s main sights. They are ideal if you enjoy stepping straight out of your hotel and into the heart of the action.
For those looking to add a touch of luxury to their stay, Cobergher Hotel is hard to beat. This stylish boutique hotel combines comfort, sophistication, and beautiful design in a way that feels effortlessly luxurious. Every detail has been carefully considered, from the elegant interiors to the refined atmosphere throughout the property.
Even if you choose not to stay at Cobergher Hotel, it is still worth stopping by during your visit. The hotel is so beautifully designed that it feels like an attraction in its own right. Treat yourself to a coffee in the elegant surroundings and take a moment to soak up the atmosphere. It is one of those places that perfectly captures the stylish side of Kortrijk and leaves a lasting impression long after your visit.

12 Best Things to Do in Kortrijk
#1 Explore Kortrijk’s Historic City Centre
The historic city centre is the perfect place to start your visit to Kortrijk. This is where the city’s story began, and even today, much of its character and charm can still be found in its streets, squares, and waterfront. Kortrijk grew into an important trading city during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries as part of the County of Flanders, and traces of that prosperous past are still visible throughout the centre. From the medieval street layout to the beautiful squares and the city’s location along the River Lys, history is never far away.
What makes Kortrijk so enjoyable to explore is that it never feels like a city that is stuck in the past. While its historic roots are clearly visible, the city has evolved into a vibrant mix of heritage and modern life. Historic façades stand beside contemporary architecture, and centuries old streets lead naturally into stylish public spaces.
One of the things we appreciated most about Kortrijk is its compact size. This is not a city where you spend your day rushing between attractions or figuring out complicated transport connections. Instead, everything feels comfortably within reach. Most of the highlights are located around the Grote Markt and the River Lys, making it easy to explore the city entirely on foot.
In fact, some of our favourite moments came when we stopped following a route altogether. Wander through charming streets, turn into an unexpected alleyway, cross one of the bridges over the river, and see where you end up. Along the way, you’ll discover inviting cafés, lively terraces, hidden courtyards, independent shops, and beautiful corners that never appear on a sightseeing checklist.
The city centre also feels remarkably modern. Over the past years, several public spaces have been carefully redesigned, creating a more open and pedestrian friendly environment. Squares have been transformed into attractive meeting places, walking routes have been improved, and contemporary architecture has been thoughtfully integrated throughout the city. These modern additions blend surprisingly well with the historic surroundings, giving Kortrijk a fresh and dynamic feel.
Extra tip: Climb Saint Martin’s Tower for one of the best views in Kortrijk. From the top, you can look out across the rooftops, church towers, and winding streets of the historic centre while gaining a completely different perspective of the city. Before your visit, be sure to check whether the tower is open. During our stay, access was temporarily restricted because peregrine falcons were nesting there. Free tickets can be reserved online in advance, which is a good idea if you want to avoid disappointment.

#2 Visit Museum Abby Kortrijk
One of the newest landmarks in Kortrijk is Museum Abby, a striking cultural centre that opened its doors in 2025. Despite being a recent addition to the city, it has already attracted international attention and earned recognition for its impressive architecture. Even before stepping inside, the building makes an impression. The design combines a historic abbey with bold contemporary architecture, creating a fascinating contrast between centuries of history and modern creativity.
The museum itself continues that sense of discovery. Unlike many traditional museums, Museum Abby does not revolve around a permanent collection. Instead, it focuses on a dynamic programme of temporary exhibitions that change throughout the year. As a result, no two visits are exactly the same, and there is always something new to experience.
One of the most inviting spaces in the museum is the Living, a freely accessible area that visitors can enter without purchasing a ticket. It serves as a welcoming introduction to the museum and offers a glimpse into its creative spirit. Rather than remaining unchanged, the Living is completely reimagined every two years by different artists.
Beyond the Living, the museum features several larger exhibition halls, including beautiful spaces within the former abbey itself. Here, temporary exhibitions bring together contemporary art, cultural stories, and historical elements in creative and unexpected ways. The variety is one of the museum’s greatest strengths. You might find yourself exploring modern installations, thought provoking artworks, historical objects, or exhibitions that combine all three.
The museum is beautifully located in Begijnhof Park, a peaceful green space just beyond the busiest streets of the city centre. After exploring the exhibitions, there is no need to rush off. Right next to the museum you will find Abby Café, a lovely place to take a break and reflect on what you have seen. The café’s terrace is particularly enjoyable on a sunny day, offering a quiet spot to enjoy a coffee, lunch, or a drink while overlooking the park. For most visitors, allowing around one to one and a half hours is the perfect amount of time to explore the museum, enjoy the exhibitions, and soak up the atmosphere at a comfortable pace.

#3 Kortrijk 1302 Film Experience in the Church of Our Lady
The Kortrijk 1302 film experience in the Church of Our Lady is one of the most unexpected highlights of a visit to Kortrijk. A church visit might not immediately sound like an exciting activity for everyone, but this unique audiovisual experience completely changes that idea. Instead of simply walking through a historic building and admiring the architecture, you become part of a story that brings the past back to life. It is a creative and memorable way to experience one of the city’s most important historical moments.
The experience takes place inside the Count’s Chapel, a beautiful and historic section of the church. The chapel is already impressive on its own, with stunning stained glass windows and a gallery filled with portraits of the Counts of Flanders. Every thirty minutes, the lights go down and the projection begins. The windows are covered, you put on your headphones, and suddenly the walls, ceilings, and colourful glass windows transform into a moving scene filled with images, music, and storytelling.
You can choose between Dutch, English, and French, making the experience easy to follow for visitors from different countries. The combination of visuals and sound creates an immersive atmosphere where you do not simply watch history, but almost feel like you are stepping into it.
The film tells the story of the Battle of the Golden Spurs in 1302, one of the most significant events in Flemish history. During this battle, Flemish militias defeated the French knight army, a moment that became deeply connected to the identity and history of Flanders. Because Kortrijk was the location of this historic event, the story feels especially meaningful when experienced here.
Rather than explaining the history through long texts or traditional information boards, the film uses images, sound effects, and projections to make the story accessible to everyone. The result is an experience that is easy to understand while still being visually impressive. Even if history is not usually something that interests you, this experience is still worth adding to your Kortrijk itinerary. The combination of the historic church, the colourful stained glass windows, the moving projections, and the carefully created soundtrack gives the whole experience an almost magical feeling. Watching the images flow across the old architecture creates a completely different way of connecting with the past.
Another great advantage of the Kortrijk 1302 film experience is that it is completely free to visit. The official website recommends booking a time slot in advance, but during our visit we were told that reservations are mainly important for larger groups. If you are travelling alone, as a couple, or with a small group, it is usually enough to check the schedule and join one of the screenings when you arrive.

#4 Beguinage of Saint Elisabeth
The Beguinage of Saint Elisabeth feels like a hidden little village tucked away in the heart of Kortrijk. This historic neighbourhood was founded in the thirteenth century as a home for beguines, religious women who chose to live together in a community without taking official monastic vows. They followed their own way of life, combining faith, independence, and daily work. Thanks to its remarkable preservation, the beguinage still offers visitors a rare glimpse into a world that existed centuries ago. Because of its important cultural and historical value, it has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
For us, this is without a doubt one of the most charming places to visit in Kortrijk. The moment you pass through the entrance, you feel a complete change in atmosphere. The sounds and energy of the city centre fade away, and you suddenly find yourself surrounded by peaceful streets, beautiful historic houses, and small green spaces. It feels almost as if you have stepped into another time, leaving the busy city behind and entering a quiet historic village.
The best way to experience the beguinage is simply to take your time and wander around without a strict plan. Follow the narrow cobbled streets, admire the traditional architecture, and enjoy the calm surroundings. Small details make the visit special, from charming doorways and quiet courtyards to the carefully preserved buildings that tell the story of the women who once called this place home.
Although the beguinage is a wonderful place to explore from the outside, it is also worth learning more about its history. The small exhibition inside the beguinage provides extra background about the beguines, their daily lives, and the important role this community played throughout history. It helps bring the peaceful streets around you to life and gives you a better understanding of the people who lived here.
At the edge of the beguinage, you will find Huyze Begga, a lovely café where you can take a break and enjoy the surroundings. Whether you sit inside or choose a table on the terrace, it is the perfect place for a coffee, a drink, or a light lunch. Surrounded by the calm atmosphere of the beguinage, it offers a wonderful moment to slow down and enjoy the quieter side of Kortrijk.

#5 Broel Towers & The Leie Riverbanks
The Broel Towers are without a doubt one of Kortrijk’s most recognisable landmarks. Rising proudly along the River Lys, known locally as the Leie, these medieval towers have become one of the city’s most iconic images. Dating back to the fourteenth century, they were once an important part of Kortrijk’s defensive system. Because of their strategic position at one of the main entrances to the city, the towers helped protect Kortrijk and control traffic crossing the river and the nearby bridge.
Today, the role of the Broel Towers has completely changed. Instead of guarding the city, they now welcome visitors and locals as one of Kortrijk’s favourite places to meet, relax, and enjoy the surroundings. Their impressive medieval architecture, combined with their beautiful riverside location, makes them a place that naturally catches your attention. It is almost impossible to walk past without stopping for a photo or taking a moment to admire the view.
The charm of this area is not only found in the towers themselves, but also in the beautiful surroundings. In recent years, the Leie riverbanks have been transformed into one of the most pleasant public spaces in Kortrijk. What was once mainly a riverside route has become a welcoming promenade where people come to walk, sit, meet friends, and enjoy the atmosphere of the city.
The redesigned riverbanks now feature wide walking paths, comfortable places to sit, steps that lead down towards the water, and inviting terraces where you can relax with a drink or a meal. Walking along the Leie gives you a wonderful view of the different sides of Kortrijk. On one side, you have historic buildings and the medieval Broel Towers. On the other side, modern architecture and contemporary public spaces show how Kortrijk has continued to grow and change.
The Leie riverbanks are especially enjoyable when the sun is shining. This is when the area truly comes alive, with locals and visitors gathering on terraces, sitting by the water, or simply enjoying time outdoors. During our visit in early April, we were lucky enough to experience unusually warm weather, and the riverside was already full of people enjoying the sunshine. The terraces were busy, the steps by the water were filled, and the whole area had a relaxed summer feeling.

#6 Grote Markt, Belfry & City Hall
The Grote Markt is the central square of Kortrijk and a place you will almost certainly come across several times while exploring the city. Located right in the heart of the historic centre, it is one of those places where everything seems to come together. The square is surrounded by charming cafés, welcoming terraces, and some of Kortrijk’s most important historic buildings, making it the perfect spot to pause during your city walk.
Whether you stop for a coffee in the morning, enjoy a relaxed lunch, or simply take a moment to admire the architecture around you, the Grote Markt has a lively yet comfortable atmosphere. The most eye catching landmark on the square is the Belfry of Kortrijk. This beautiful medieval bell tower is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Belfries of Belgium and France and has been an important symbol of the city for centuries. During medieval times, the belfry represented Kortrijk’s independence and power. It was used to store important documents and city records. Today, the Belfry remains one of Kortrijk’s most recognisable sights. Its elegant shape, relatively slender tower, and distinctive pointed roof make it stand out among the buildings around the square.
On the edge of the Grote Markt stands another important landmark: Kortrijk City Hall. This impressive building adds even more character to the square with its beautiful combination of Gothic architecture and later additions. The richly decorated façade is filled with statues, carvings, and small details that reflect the history and identity of Kortrijk.
Together, the Belfry and City Hall create the historic atmosphere that makes the Grote Markt such a special part of Kortrijk. They remind visitors of the city’s important role during the Middle Ages and continue to form the visual centre of the city today.
The square is especially enjoyable when the weather is nice and the terraces start filling up. During our visit in early April, we arrived just in time to experience the annual Paasfoor, a large Easter fair that takes place around this period. For a short time, the historic square was transformed into a colourful fairground filled with attractions, food stalls, lights, and entertainment.
Even when there is no special event happening, the Grote Markt is still a place worth enjoying. Find a spot on one of the terraces, order a drink, look around at the beautiful historic buildings, and simply take in the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

#7 Baggaertshof
The Baggaertshof is one of the lesser known places to visit in Kortrijk, but that is exactly what makes it such a wonderful discovery. While many visitors focus on the city’s main landmarks, this hidden courtyard offers a quiet and peaceful escape just a short walk away from the busy streets.
The courtyard was founded in 1638 by two wealthy sisters who created it as a home for single women. Unlike a traditional convent, the Baggaertshof provided these women with a safe and comfortable place to live while still allowing them a certain degree of independence. The community had its own character and way of life, and over the centuries the buildings have been remarkably well preserved.
As soon as you walk through the entrance, the atmosphere changes completely. The heart of the Baggaertshof is the charming inner courtyard, where simple white houses surround a peaceful herb garden. This garden was originally used to grow medicinal plants, which played an important role in the daily lives of the women who lived here.
The simplicity of the surroundings is what makes this place so special. There are no grand decorations or impressive monuments, but instead you find small houses, quiet pathways, and carefully maintained garden create. Take some time to explore the different corners of the Baggaertshof. Step inside the small chapel, visit one of the historic houses to get an impression of how the residents once lived, and take a peaceful walk through the garden.
You will not need several hours to visit the Baggaertshof, but it is definitely worth including in your Kortrijk itinerary. It is the perfect short stop during a walk through the city and a beautiful example of a quieter, more authentic side of Kortrijk.

#8 Bookshop Theoria
Boekenhuis Theoria is an independent bookshop located right in the centre of Kortrijk and a wonderful place to visit when you want to take a break from the usual sightseeing. For book lovers, it is an absolute must during your city trip. But even if you are not specifically looking for a new book, Theoria is still worth a visit. The atmosphere, the beautiful interior, and the cosy feeling make it a place where you will want to spend some time.
The bookshop has been part of Kortrijk since 1976 and has built up a reputation as one of the city’s most special and charming places. Over the years, it has appeared in various lists of unique bookshops, and it is easy to understand why. Before visiting, we had already seen some photos online and expected it to be nice, but perhaps not as impressive as some of the famous bookshops you find in bigger cities. However, the moment we walked inside, we completely changed our minds.
The shop is located in a beautiful historic building, and the interior creates a warm and welcoming feeling. The entire space is designed around the joy of reading, with shelves full of carefully selected books and quiet reading corners. It does not feel like a place where you simply walk in, choose a book, and leave. Instead, it feels like a space created for people to browse, relax, and enjoy the experience.
Another lovely feature is the small café area inside the bookshop. You can order a coffee or something tasty and enjoy it while surrounded by books. This combination of literature, cosy seating, and a relaxed café atmosphere gives Theoria a special character. It feels less like a traditional bookshop and more like a meeting place where people come to enjoy a quiet moment.
During our visit, we loved the atmosphere so much that we actually returned a second time. We wanted to buy a few more beautiful books for our daughter, who was almost turning five years old, and Theoria turned out to be the perfect place to find something special.

#9 Buda Island & Budafactory
Buda Island is located between two branches of the River Lys, known locally as the Leie, and is often described as the creative heart of Kortrijk. In recent years, this part of the city has gone through an impressive transformation. What was once mainly an industrial area has slowly become a lively cultural district where art, design, innovation, and creativity come together.
The old industrial buildings on the island have been carefully given new life, with their historic character preserved while being combined with modern architecture. Today, these spaces are home to artists, designers, creative entrepreneurs, and educational organisations. This creates a completely different atmosphere from the historic centre of Kortrijk. Instead of medieval streets and traditional façades, you will find a more contemporary side of the city with a younger and more experimental feel.
The best known example is Budafactory, a former factory that has been transformed into a creative workspace and cultural venue. The building is now used by students, artists, and makers connected to the local university college, who work on creative projects and present their ideas here. Even though the building has a new purpose, you can still see many reminders of its industrial past. Budafactory occasionally opens its doors to visitors through exhibitions, performances, cultural events, and temporary projects.
Even if there is no event happening during your visit, Buda Island is still a lovely place to explore. The area is ideal for a relaxed walk along the river, where you can enjoy views over the water, discover colourful street art, and simply take in the different atmosphere.

#10 Concept Stores, Hotspots & Restaurants
One of the things that surprised us most about Kortrijk was how effortlessly stylish and modern the city feels. Between the historic buildings, charming squares, and medieval streets, you will discover a great mix of trendy hotspots, creative concept stores, and welcoming cafés and restaurants. Whether you are searching for unique gifts, beautiful interior pieces, local design, or just enjoy browsing inspiring shops, there are plenty of lovely places waiting to be discovered.
Concept stores such as De Inkijk and Studio Wink are great examples of the creative side of Kortrijk. These shops bring together carefully selected collections of home accessories, design items, handmade products, and original gifts.
When it is time to relax with a drink, Kortrijk also has plenty of cosy options. Beer enthusiasts should definitely visit the speciality beer café Gainsbar, where you can enjoy a wide range of beers in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. If you prefer sitting outside, the terrace at Baruma is a wonderful choice. It is a great place to slow down, enjoy a drink, and watch the city pass by around you.
For something sweet, Julia’s is a lovely stop for coffee and cake. The café has a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect place for a little break during your city walk. Their pastries are delicious, but the real highlight for us was the apple crumble cheesecake. It is a unique combination of flavours and definitely something we would recommend trying if you love desserts.
If you are looking for a good brunch spot, BON DIA Brunch is a popular choice. It is the perfect place to start a relaxed day in Kortrijk, with plenty of time to enjoy a good breakfast or brunch before heading out to explore more of the city.
For dinner, Gursha is a great option if you want to try something different. This Ethiopian restaurant offers a completely different experience from many of the other restaurants you will find in the city. The flavours, the presentation, and the way the meal is shared make it a memorable place to eat. They also have vegetarian and vegan options, so it is a good choice for different preferences.

#11 Texture Museum
The Texture Museum is one of the most interesting and meaningful museums to visit in Kortrijk. While many museums focus on famous people, artworks, or major historical events, Texture tells the story of something that shaped the city itself: the flax and textile industry. For centuries, Kortrijk played an important role in flax production and processing, and this industry had a major influence on the growth, culture, and identity of the region.
A visit to Texture takes you on a journey through the complete story of flax, starting with the plant itself and ending with the production of linen. You discover how a simple crop was transformed into a valuable textile product and learn about the people, skills, and traditions that were connected to this industry. The museum brings this story to life through a combination of historic machines, personal stories, photographs, objects, and interactive elements, making it much more engaging than a museum where you simply walk past displays.
As you explore the different rooms, you get a clear picture of how the textile industry worked in the past. You can see old production machines, learn about traditional techniques, and discover what everyday life looked like for the workers who depended on this industry. The museum does not only focus on the technical side of flax production, but also on the people behind it.
What makes Texture especially interesting is the way it shows how closely the industry was connected to Kortrijk itself. The museum explains how flax and textiles influenced the local economy and helped shape the city over many generations. It gives you a better understanding of why this region developed the way it did and why the history of flax is still an important part of Kortrijk today.
The location adds another special element to the experience. Texture is housed in a former factory building along the River Lys, which makes it the perfect setting for this museum. Being surrounded by the same type of industrial environment where this work once took place helps bring the history to life and makes the visit feel much more authentic.
A visit usually takes around one to one and a half hours, making it an easy addition to a city trip. It is especially recommended if you want to look beyond Kortrijk’s beautiful streets and historic landmarks and discover the story that helped shape the city into what it is today.
#12 Omer Vander Ghinste Brewery
During your city trip to Kortrijk, you will quickly notice one thing: Omer beer seems to be everywhere. Many cafés and restaurants serve it, and there is a good reason for that. This well known Belgian beer comes from the region itself, making it a fun local discovery and a great way to experience a small part of Kortrijk’s identity.
Just outside the city, in the village of Bellegem, you can visit the Omer Vander Ghinste Brewery. This family owned brewery has been producing beer since 1892 and is located only around a ten minute drive from the centre of Kortrijk. For beer lovers, it is a wonderful addition to your itinerary, but even if you are simply curious about Belgian traditions, the visit is a great experience.
During a brewery tour, you get a behind the scenes look at the entire brewing process. You learn about the ingredients, the different steps involved, and the care that goes into creating each beer. Walking through the brewery allows you to see the large brewing installations up close and discover how the business has developed while staying connected to its family roots.
The story behind the brewery is also a big part of the experience. Omer Vander Ghinste Brewery has been passed down through several generations, and the tour shows how the family has continued to combine tradition with modern brewing techniques. It is a lovely example of how local craftsmanship and heritage can continue to thrive over time.
Of course, the best part of the visit comes at the end: the tasting. After learning about the brewing process, you can try different beers and experience the flavours that have made the brewery so popular. Whether you are already a fan of Belgian beer or just want to enjoy a unique local experience, it is a fun and delicious stop during your stay in Kortrijk. Cheers!
We visited Kortrijk as guests of Visit Kortrijk.
