Unique design and nature landscapes at the Voscheheugte

Wide views, a minimalist design, beautiful materials and luxurious comfort. This is the best way to summarize the unique design hut on Voscheheugte. We were allowed to stay in this artwork and fell in love instantly!

Voscheheugte has a small-scale nature campsite in a wide landscape near forests and heath. Here you can not only camp, but also spend the night in one of the unique hiker’s huts. Each of these cabins has a unique and incredible design. From the smartly furnished ‘Trek-in huts’ to the design cabin Goudvink. The design hut is our crime scene for a wonderful weekend in Drenthe.

The design cabin is not to be missed on arrival. Spread over the Voscheheugte site you will find the special hiker’s huts, with a square block as the showpiece. Ivy slowly grows on the sides and will eventually cover a large part of the Goudvink. Upon entering we find a hall with a small kitchen block, bathroom, separate toilet and two double bedsteads. The small kitchen unit is almost complete – refrigerator, stove, dishes, French press, kettle and pans – but a three-course dinner is a bit tight and difficult. The stairs immediately to the right of the door lead up and that’s where the wow effect gets even bigger.

The top floor is decorated in a minimalistic way and built with beautiful materials. But the eye-catcher is the glass wall with a amazing wide view. No standard sofa in front of the window, but a comfortable relaxation mattress. Due to the lowered ceilings of the bedsteads, the upper floor also has two height levels, which provides a unique layout. The lower part has a spacious dining table – or workstation or conference table – for five people. A small staircase leads to the higher part with the mattress and phenomenal view.

Every detail shows that the design of the Goudvink has been well thought out. From the soft green tone that is carried through to the crockery to the special materials. For example, much of the upper floor of the design cabin is made of wood, but not so much that it becomes an old-fashioned log cabin. The rusty ceiling comes from an old pigsty. And so almost everything about the house is made of demolition material.

The environment is just as beautiful and impressive as the design hut itself. From heather with stray sheep to wide vistas. From dense forests to the former Nazi camp Westerbork. Tip: on the Voscheheugte website you can find several walking routes in the area.

So we are immediately in love with the design hut. As much as we love our own tiny house where we live, we would swap it for this special design!
