How to get to Amman in Jordan

Amman, the capital of Jordan, is situated in the country’s northeast. Jordan’s primary international airport is south of the city.

The country’s small distances make the Dead Sea conveniently located near other attractions in Jordan. We recommend renting a car in Jordan, as public transportation is limited. With a car, you can reach the Dead Sea from the north of Amman within an hour. The charming town of Madaba is a 45-minute drive away, and the Roman ruin city of Jerash is less than an hour away. In just 2 hours, you can reach the picturesque Dana Nature Reserve, perfect for hiking. The famous Petra is accessible by car in slightly over 3 hours.

Why Amman is worth a visit

During your trip to Jordan, you must simply visit the capital, Amman. With a history dating back to prehistoric times, this ancient city, situated on seven hills, was once known as Philadelphia. The oldest discovered remnants in Amman date back to a period well before the birth of Christ. As a result, Amman offers a captivating fusion of contemporary attractions, classical architecture, and archaeological discoveries.

The citadel is Amman’s most renowned landmark, situated on a central hill. It offers a magnificent view of the city and showcases the oldest remnants of Amman, including the impressive Temple of Hercules and the ancient palace. Other notable attractions in Amman include the Roman Theater, King Abdullah I Mosque, trendy Rainbow Street, traditional falafel restaurant Hashem, and top-notch museums. Additionally, Amman serves as a convenient starting point for day trips to the Roman ruins of Jerash, the famous Dead Sea, and the charming mosaic town of Madaba.
